Storyline:-

Vamshi Paidipally, who also co-wrote the script with Hari and Ashishor Solomon, will direct the action drama Varisu, which will be released in 2023 in Tamil. The movie stars Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna and was jointly produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations and PVP Cinema. Thaman S is in charge of the music, Karthik Palani is in charge of the cinematography, and Praveen K. L. is in charge of the editing.

The film was announced in September 2021 under the tentative title Thalapathy 66, as it is Vijay's 66th film in a leading role. Principal photography began in April 2022 and concluded in December. The film was shot mostly in Chennai and Hyderabad, with sporadic schedules in Visakhapatnam, Bellary and Ladakh.

Varisu was released in theatres worldwide on 11 January 2023, in the week of Pongal. The film has grossed ₹150 crore (US$19 million), making it the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023.

Plot:-

 Vijay Rajendran, the youngest son of Rajendran Palanisamy, a prominent business magnate, refuses to join the family business and instead decides to start a food delivery startup. As a result, he is disowned and kicked out of the house. Seven years later, Rajendran receives the news that he has advanced pancreatic cancer and only a few months left to live. Before his impending death, he decides to disclose his terminal illness and name one of his two older sons, Jai or Ajay, chairman of the company.

Rajendran plans to celebrate his 65th birthday in a grand way with the intention of announcing both matters at the event. In addition, Vijay is invited at the request of his mother, Sudha, who continues to consider him to be her son. When Vijay arrives, his house is in disarray. Jai is neglecting his family, including his teenage daughter Ria, while he is with another woman and cheating on his wife Aarthi. When Ajay is unable to pay off a financier named Mukesh, he offers to reveal the secrets of his company to Jayaprakash "JP," his father's business rival. The two older brothers never talk to each other and constantly fight over who will succeed their father.

In the meantime, Vijay meets Divya, Aarthi's younger sister, who has always had a crush on Vijay. The two fall in love with one another after a few incidents. JP and Mukesh reveal the duplicity of Jai and Ajay at Rajendran's birthday party, which upsets the entire family, especially Aarthi, who decides to get a divorce, and Rajendran, who lost a business deal to JP because of Ajay's duplicity. Rajendran reaches out to Vijay because he is aware that he cannot rely on his older sons to run his business empire. Vijay initially declines, but after learning about Rajendran's illness, he agrees to take over.

Jai and Ajay leave the house and work with JP and Mukesh to get rid of Vijay as chairman. However, Vijay overcomes the obstacles and manages the family business well. Jai makes amends with Vijay, Aarthi, and the rest of the family after Vijay rescues Ria from a human trafficker. Vijay and Jai then work together to prevent Ajay from selling the shares of their company to JP and make him realize his errors. They eat a hearty meal together now that the entire family is together, much to Rajendran and Sudha's delight. The three brothers co-officiate Rajendran's funeral and scatter his ashes in Varanasi when he passes away.

Marketing:-

A portion of social media users criticized Marketing Varisu's first poster, which was released on June 21, 2022. They claimed that the poster was copied from Otto clothing board advertisements and also edited the poster to support their claims. In response to the trolls, the business asserted that the image has no connection to the business. The film's outdoor promotion began in early December 2022, when the poster was wrapped in the Uzhavan Express train and Chennai Metro train.

Release:-

 Theatrical:- Varisu debuted on January 11, 2023, during the week of Pongal, which also happened to be Thunivu. Dubbed versions of the movie in Hindi and Telugu (under the title Vaarasudu) are planned. The Telugu Film Producers Council urged theater owners to give first preference to only direct Telugu films releasing in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during the week of Sankranti festival, so the release of the Telugu version was initially in danger of being moved to an earlier date than the Tamil version. Veera Simha Reddy by Nandamuri Balakrishna and Waltair Veerayya by Chiranjeevi were scheduled to be released on the festival on January 12 and 13, 2023, respectively. Despite this, the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Association announced that, following discussions with the Telugu Film Producers Council, the Telugu version would be released as planned. However, Raju decided to release Veera Simha Reddy and Waltair Veerayya first, so the Telugu version was delayed until January 14, 2023.

The acquisition of the film's Tamil Nadu theatrical rights by Seven Screen Studios was made public in November. Through their sub-distributors, they will further distribute the movie: Red Giant Movies will distribute the film in North Arcot, South Arcot, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Chengalpet. Distributors Senthil (Salem) and Shri Sai Combines (Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari), Five Star Films (Madurai), Radhu Infotainment (Tiruchirappalli and Tanjore), and Shri Sai Combines (Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari) are The rights to distribute the film in European nations like France, Norway, and the Netherlands were acquired by Seasons Creations. Ahimsa Entertainment will distribute the film in both Tamil and Telugu in the United Kingdom. The theatrical rights for North America were purchased by Shloka Entertainment. The Malaysia distribution rights were purchased by DMY Creations.

Pre-release business The film's non-theatrical rights, which include satellite, digital, audio, and dubbing rights, were sold for 150 crore, or US$19 million. Seven Screen Studios purchased the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights for 85 crore (US$11 million) on a minimum-guarantee basis. The film's theatrical rights were sold for more than 150 crore (US$19 million). The theatrical rights for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were sold to Confident Group for 50 crore (US$6.3 million), while the rights for Kerala and 30 crore (US$3.8 million) were sold to Confident Group for 30 crore (US$3.8 million). Overseas theatrical rights were purchased for 85 crore, or 11 million, USD. The film's rights to Hindi dubbing were purchased for more than 90 crore (US$11 million).
