Samrat Prithviraj is a 2022 Indian historical action drama film produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi. The epic poem Prithviraj Raso, written in the Braj language, tells the story of the life of Rajput king Prithviraj Chauhan, who belonged to the Chahamana dynasty. Manushi Chhillar makes her debut in a Hindi film as Sanyogita, and Akshay Kumar plays the title character. Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Manav Vij, Ashutosh Rana, and Sakshi Tanwar also appear in important roles in the movie.

Yash Raj Films released an official motion poster on September 9, 2019, announcing the film's Diwali 2020 release in theaters. Principal photography began on November 15, 2019, in Jaipur, but was postponed until March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. At YRF Studios, filming for the movie resumed in October 2020. After a court battle a week before the film's scheduled release, it was retitled Samrat Prithviraj instead of Prithviraj. The movie came out on June 3, 2022.

Critics gave the movie mixed reviews. It was said to have cost between 150 crore (US$19 million) and 300 crore (US$38 million) to make, and it only made 90.32 crore (US$11 million) at the box office.

 In 1192 CE, Muhammad Ghori kidnaps Prithviraj and forces him to fight three lions in Ghazni, Afghanistan. Prithviraj, blinded, kills them all but faints from weakness.

The narrative then moves forward a few years to Kannauj, where Jayachand's daughter, princess Sanyogita, is in love with Ajmer's ruler, Prithviraj Chauhan. The brother of Ghori, Mir Hossain, approaches Prithviraj in Ajmer. Despite the fact that Ghori and Hossain were brothers, they fell out because Hossain ran with Chitralekha, a dancer in Ghori's kingdom, and the two of them loved each other. Hossain is welcomed into his kingdom after Prithviraj assures him that he will assist him. Ghori is enraged by this, and if Prithviraj does not return Hossain to him, he will attack Ajmer. Qutb al-Din Aibak is sent to Ajmer by Ghori. Ghori's request is rejected by Prithviraj. Prithviraj accepts the call for a war as Aibak warns him. This leads to the First Battle of Tarain, in which Prithviraj, Kaka Kanha, Chand Bardai, and his men defeat Ghori's army but lose Mir Hossain. In the meantime, Ghori is taken in by Prithviraj, but he is let go after a few days.

Delhi's ruler is selected as Prithviraj Chauhan. Jayachand is enraged by this. He warns that this will have negative repercussions. In order to expand his empire, Jayachand makes the decision to organize a Svayamvara for Sanyogita and Rajasuya Yagya. Additionally, he sends Prithviraj an invitation in which he requests fifty percent control over Delhi, which Prithviraj declines. Because Prithviraj had declined the invitation, Jayachand makes the decision to sculpt a statue of him for the entrance to his empire. According to the custom, a statue can take the place of a person who declines an invitation. Sanyogita decides to place the varmala on Prithviraj's statue as the svayamvara begins. Jayachand is enraged by this. He decides to punish his daughter, but Prithviraj quickly appears with his army and seizes Sanyogita because she had decided to marry Prithviraj. Jayachand, enraged, decides to attack Prithviraj, but his advisors stop him. Soon after, Sanyogita and Prithviraj get married in accordance with the customs. Jayachand sends his army to attack other Prithviraj-controlled forts after a few days. His army quickly seizes Gaudpur Fort. Kaka Kanha and Prithviraj's army decide to retake Gaudpur fort while Sanyogita, Prithviraj, Chand Bardai, and others are outside. They are able to retake the fort, but Kaka Kanha and a large number of other Chauhan soldiers are killed in the battle. Kaka Kanha's final wish for Prithviraj was for him to forgive Jayachand, so Prithviraj makes the decision to attack Jayachand but quickly changes his mind. Later, Prithviraj decides to give Sanyogita the same darbar position as him. Other members of the darbar object to this decision, but Prithviraj soon manages to win their approval by emphasizing the significance of women in society.

Jayachand makes the decision to get in touch with Muhammad Ghori through a merchant and demands that he capture Prithviraj. He will give Ghori anything he wants in return. Aibak is sent to Delhi by Ghori. Aibak tells Prithviraj that he needs to work for Ghori or he should get ready for another war. Prithviraj accepts Ghori's offer of war. The Second Battle of Tarain is the result of this. Ghori's army shrinks as the battle goes on. After that, Ghori decides to attack Prithviraj at night while the rest of his army is sleeping. After defeating Prithviraj's army, Ghori's army captures Prithviraj and returns him to Ghazni. Sanyogita and other Rajput women commit mass suicide by burning themselves as Ghori's army approaches Delhi. Jayachand is left in agony and shock as a result of Ghori's refusal to give him Prithviraj. Ajmer and his daughter had been taken from him.

Ghori's men are now in charge of Delhi. When Ghori captures Prithviraj, he orders his men to cut off his eyes, rendering him blind. Prithviraj is forced to fight lions, but he eventually wins. After that, he asks Ghori to allow Chand Bardai to assist him with his poetry and words if anyone wants to attack him. He also requests that whoever wants to attack him first call his name. Prithviraj soon passes out. The following day, the blind Prithviraj is given seven chances to save his army's lives as well as his own. Ghori's men arrive at the conclusion that Prithviraj will be given seven arrows and a bow; if he can kill one man from a group of seven, he will be released. Prithviraj declines the offer and demands that Ghori kill Prithviraj face-to-face with him using only one arrow and one chance. Ghori meets Prithviraj on the battlefield after accepting the condition. Chand Bardai reads a poem to Prithviraj as Ghori got closer. Prithviraj then shoots an arrow into Muhammad Ghori's neck, instantly killing him, inspired by the poem. Both Chand Bardai and Prithviraj are killed by arrows fired by Ghori's men as Chand Bardai leaps to hug him. In accordance with the terms, Prithviraj's men are released from prison. To carry out the final rites, Prithviraj's men take the bodies of Chauhan and Bardai.

Prithviraj Chauhan was the last Hindu ruler of Delhi prior to the Islamic conquest of Hindustan, according to a note at the film's conclusion. Prithviraj Chauhan's death was justified by freedom when India became independent in 1947.
